Your account and notifications
Your own profile, password and two-factor settings, plus where to turn on the browser alert for new orders.
Settings → Account is about you, not the store. Everyone on the team has one, and what you set here follows you across every store you can access.
Your profile
Your name, email and password live here, along with two-factor authentication. Turning 2FA on is the single best thing you can do to protect a store you can edit.
New-order alerts
This is the page people are looking for when they ask "why am I not getting notified about orders?"
There are two separate things, and they are often confused:
| Where it's set | Who it reaches | |
|---|---|---|
| Browser alerts for new orders | Settings → Account (here) | Just you, in this browser |
| Order emails to you or the customer | Settings → Email | Whoever the template targets |
If order emails aren't arriving at all, the alert setting here won't help. Check the email templates and the master notifications switch instead.
Email from Brainerce
Settings → Account also controls what we send you. Three separate switches, because they are different kinds of mail:
| Switch | Default | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| Service notices | On | SDK releases, breaking changes, incidents, deprecations |
| Product news | On | New and changed features, with no offer or price |
| Offers and promotions | On | Discounts, upgrade offers, promotions |
Why offers arrive without you signing up
All three are on by default, and all three can be switched off. You receive offers and promotions because you hold a Brainerce account: they concern the service you already pay for, or upgrades to it. This is set out in section 10.4 of the Terms of Service you accepted at registration.
We never sell, rent or pass your address to anyone else for their own marketing. Turning a switch off stops that category from us, permanently, until you turn it back on.
Turning them off
Each switch is independent. Turning off Offers and promotions leaves product news and service notices running; turning off Product news leaves the other two running. Changes take effect immediately, and every email we send also carries a one-click unsubscribe that does the same thing as the switch.
If a colleague receives our emails and you do not, one of these switches is why.
What you cannot turn off here: billing, security and account emails. Those are required to run your store, so they are always sent. Turning off both switches above does not stop a failed-payment warning or a password-reset message.
This page is about mail Brainerce sends you. Mail your store sends your customers is a different place entirely, Settings → Email.
What happens if you mark a Brainerce email as spam
Use the switches above, or the unsubscribe link, rather than the Report spam or Mark as junk button in your mail app. Reporting one of our messages as spam does two things, and one of them is not reversible by you:
- Your address is blocked. Every category on this page stops reaching you, service notices included, and often the rest of our mail with it. No switch on this page can undo that, because it is not a preference: it is your mail provider telling us to stop. Write to [email protected] to have the block lifted.
- The matching switch above is turned off. Only the one that matches the message you reported. Reporting an offer turns off Offers and promotions; reporting a feature announcement turns off Product news. Reporting a service notice turns off nothing, because that category has no consent to withdraw.
Reporting an offer as spam does not turn off your service notices. That is the promise in section 10.4 of the Terms, and it holds for the spam button as well as for the switches.
If you have already reported one and our email has stopped arriving entirely, that is point 1, not point 2. Ask support to lift the block; turning the switches back on will not do it on its own.
Account vs store
Your Brainerce account can own or belong to several stores. Signing in gets you to the account; the store switcher at the top of the sidebar chooses which one you're working in.
Leaving a store, or being removed from one, doesn't touch your account.
What's next?
- Customize email templates covers the emails you and your customers receive.
- Team and permissions covers who else can reach this store.
- Settings → Email is where your store's own emails to customers are configured.
